The students of Collins University participate in a 2 year teen leadership program that teaches students important leadership skills to help them succeed in Middle School and beyond. Students are also enrolled in Collins University History in which students not only learn grade-level history but focus on the leadership abilities of leaders in our past. Guest speakers, field trips, and etiquette training are also components of the program.
Collins University Lunch & Learns are student led lunches in which local business owners and community leaders are invited to eat with students and speak to them about their careers. Students research speakers prior to each event and learn how to ask “thoughtful” questions. Students are in charge of greeting the speakers, introducing him/her, giving closing remarks, and writing proper thank you notes.
Students are able to attend frequent field trips to local and statewide locations. Field trips provide students with an opportunity to see new things, but most importantly use the communication and leadership training provided to them through their Teen Leadership class.
If selected to participate in Collins University, students will attend a one day orientation on Friday, August 14th. Students will be able to meet their CU teacher team, learn and demonstrate expectations of CU students, and dress code requirements.
